Veggies!

Yesterday we got the first 2009 delivery of CSA organic vegetables. Romaine, collards, mixed baby greens (kale, bok choy) chives w/flowers, onions, red leaf lettuce, radishes. So good. I made a salad for me and T,; ate on the deck in the company of a hummingbird and tufted titmouse.

Applique Affair

I finished my third block, by needle-turning with the "Piece O Cake" method.
I tried glue over freezer paper and starch ironed over freezer paper to prepare the pieces but the glue is too much mess and the ironing too tedious. I like my pieces prepared but don't like to do the preparing! So I'll continue with needle turn and am getting faster and more accurate with practice.

Happy Mother's Day

Here is Jason with Tim, Nick and Alyssa on the deck. They came over this evening with a card and lilac candle. I got home from UUWC Council meeting that was in St. Joseph, Michigan about 4 o'clock. Met the women from Springfield in Bloomington to carpool up there early Sat. morning. It was a nice time, a good meeting and our hostess took us to a Kurdish restaurant Cafe Gulistan for supper last night. Was it good!: humus, babaganoush, falafel, etc. Yum. I didn't know about the owner's immigration story until I got home and googled the website. I brought home a pound of fresh asparagus, just picked this morning from a roadside vegetable stand. The redbud and lilac blooms were thick and lush up there. But it is very nice to be home again. I found my little lilac bushes blooming when I pulled into the driveway!

Happy May Day and (Belated) Earth Day

May Day is cool and rainy, my Bleeding Hearts and Bluebells are blooming. Earth Day was warm and sunny; a nice breeze showed off my flag. To celebrate May Day, I put out the hummingbird feeder and am looking out for my first little guest!
